Up In the Air

RELATIONSHIPS ARE THE HEAVIEST BAGGAGE IN YOUR LIFE

A tale of an aloof, high-flying exec whose millions of frequent-flyer miles can't keep him permanently above the emotional turbulence he seeks to avoid.

Clooney is Ryan Bingham, a gun-for-hire who specializes in the the dirty work some corporate bosses don't like to do themselves, firing employees. He's great at his job, expert at suggesting to devastated workers that new horizons in life can be explored, and he loves the lifestyle of spending most of his time in business class seats and upscale hotels. Given that, at last count, he's on the move 322 days per year, and his modest apartment in Omaha resembles an undecorated motel room.

Ryan delivers occasional motivation speeches on how you should be able to fit all that's important to you into a backpack, and he practices what he preaches by travelling with just one carry-on-bag. He receives top-level, members-only treatment at airports, car rental desks and hotels, and picking up a like-minded women, Alex, in a lounge one night. They have a easy-come, easy-go relationship.

The title of this movie literally explains what it is like to not know what aspects of your life are solid, such as a home or a significant other. Everything going on is simply up in the air. One day, what you thought was one way will turn out to be something else entirely.

MAKE NO MISTAKE. MOVING IS LIVING

The Hurt Locker

"The rush of battle is often a potent and lethal addiction, for war is a drug."
CHRIS HEDGES

The movie is an intense portrayal of elite soldiers who have one of the most dangerous jobs in the world: disarming bombs in the heat of combat. When a new sergeant, James, takes over a highly trained bomb disposal team amidst violent conflict, he surprises his two subordinates, Sanborn and Eldridge, by recklessly plunging them into a deadly game or urban combat. James behaves as if he's indifferent to death.

As the men struggle to control their wild new leader, the city explodes into chaos, and James' true character reveals itself in a way that will change each man forever.

This thrilling and heart-pounding look at the psychology of bomb technicians and the effects of risk and danger on the human psyche is a fictional tale inspired by real events by journalist and screenwriter, Mark Boal who was embedded with a special bomb unit in Iraq. He won the Best Original Screenwriting in 2009 Academy Award.

In Iraq, it is soldier vernacular to speak as explosions as sending you to 'the hurt locker'.

With the visual and emotional intensity that makes audiences feel like they have been transported to the dizzying, 24-hour turmoil of life in the bomb squad, The Hurt Locker is both a gripping portrayal of real-life sacrifice and heroism, and a layered probing study of the soul- numbing rigors and potent allure of the modern battlefield.

Avatar

Written and directed by James Cameron, the movie is about a paraplegic Marine, Jake Sully who decides to take over his brother's place in a mission on the distant world of Pandora. There he learns of greedy corporate figurehead, Parker Selfridge's intentions of driving off the native humanoid 'Navi' in order to mine for the precious material scattered throughout their rich woodland. In exchange for the spinal surgery that will fix his legs, Jake gathers intel for the cooperating military unit spearheaded by Colonet Quatritch, while simultaneously attempting to infiltrate the Navi people with the use of an 'avatar' identity.

While Jake begins to bond with the native tribe and quickly falls in love with the beautiful alien, Neytiri, the restless Colonel moves forward with his ruthless extermination tactics, forcing the soldier to take a stand - and fight back in an epic battle for the fate of Pandora.

The movie is innovative and extraordinary. The wild life, the jungle, the animals, the Navis, are so life-like. The sound effects are so well done. James Cameron is a truly visionaire - and again, he delivers with full blast.
