Nights in Rodanthe

I have to admit that the movies that I will watch depends on who the actors/ actresses are. I always like Richard Gere movies especially when he is partnered with Diane Lane. This movie is another adaptation by Nicholas Sparks' novel.

Two unhappy people's lives become entwined when they have a life changing romance. Adrienne is a woman who is trying to decide whether to stay in her unhappy marriage or not. Her life changes when Paul, a doctor who is travelling to reconcile with his estranged son, checks into an inn in a North Carolina beach town where she is staying.

It is beautifully shot with a romantic setting and lots of quiet scenes. The house on the beach is called 'Serendipity'. Some people might think the movie is corny, but I like it!

Genre - Drama, romance
Casts - Richard Gere, Diane Lane
Director - George C.Wolfe

Dear John

Special Forces Army Sergeant, John Tyree is home on a two-week leave from Germany. He meets Savannah Curtis, after he dives into the ocean to retrieve Savannah's purse that had fallen off the pier. John is smitten by Savannah and falls in love at first sight. Savannah is a college student at the University of North Carolina. Along the way, a budding romance occurs, and Savannah falls deeply in love with John.

As she was about to go back to college, she promises to write John overseas during the next 12-month until he returns to her after completing his enlistment. Their love is put to test when John re-enlists after the 9/11 attack.

The movie is based on a novel by Nicholas Sparks. If you enjoy Sparks' novels, you might enjoy the movie. I haven't read the book, but after watching, I just might want to find the book and read it.

Marley and Me

"A dog has no use for fancy cars, big homes, or designer clothes. A water log stick will do just fine. A dog doesn't care if you are rich or poor, clever or dull, smart or dumb. Give him your heart and he'll give you his. How many people can you say that about? How many people can make you feel rare and pure and special? How many people can make you feel extraordinary?" JOHN GROGAN

An ambitious young reporter, John Grogan, and his wife, Jenny, also a reporter, move to Florida, buy a house and adopt a Labrador puppy they named Marley. Marley quickly becomes a rollicking force of nature in their lives.

Marley turns out to be more of a hindrance than a blessing as he grows older. After a while, John and Jenny decide to have a family, but not first going through some grim realities of life. They learn the responsibilities of having a family by first raising Marley the pup into adulthood and then into old age.
This movie certainly teaches us one thing, the importance of family, responsibility, dealing with issues such as death and most importantly about love. If you are into family-oriented, sentimental type of genre, the movie is definitely for you. It is a heartwarming experience.

Based on the critically acclaimed best selling novel by Alice Sebold, the movie centers on a young girl who has been murdered and watches over her family and her killer from heaven. She must weigh her desire for vengeance against her desire for her family to heal.

Hachi: A Dog's Tale

A 2009 American drama film based on a true story of the faithful Akita Hachiko. It is a remake of the 1987 Japanese film Hachiko Monogatari.

A college professor (Gere) takes in an abandoned dog, Hachi, and they form an unbreakable bond. After the professor dies while away from home, the dog keeps vigil waiting for his master for nearly a decade.

It is a heartwarming tale of loyalty, about how people and dogs are more than just friends. Most of all, it is about how a dog's love for its master never fades - even after his/ her death!

What an incredibly touching story! Hachiko was such a great dog!

The people of Japan was so touched by this heartfelt example of a dog's devotion for his owner that a bronze statue in Hachiko's likeness was erected at Shibuya Station.

Genre - Drama, family
Casts - Richard Gere, Joan Allen

The Back Up Plan

A comedy that explores dating, love, marriage and family in 'reverse'.

It revolves around Zoe, a wannabe mother who is tired of waiting for 'Mr Right' and decides to get herself pregnant through insemination. Just happens she meets Stan, on the same day on her way back when they both get into the same cab, arguing over who got in first.

Hate turns to love and the two go out on a date after another and romance starts to blossom. That is, until Zoe finds out she is positively pregnant and things get a little complicated as she tries to hide it from Stan. He isn't ready for fatherhood, let alone TWINS!

It is not a bad movie despite having a rather cliche storyline. It revolves around a very real topic.

Genre - Comedy, romance
Casts - Jennifer Lopez, Alex O'Laughlin
Director - Alan Poul

When In Rome

WHEN IN ROME, DO AS THE ROMANS DO!

Beth, an ambitious New Yorker, is completely unlucky in love. However, on a trip to Rome, she impulsively steals some coins from a reputed fountain of love and then was aggresively pursued by a band of suitors!

Of course, the movie is not a box office. I just watched it for fun and to entertain myself. Kristen Bell and Josh Duhamel look cute together. According to the review
s, it's not impressive at all.
